چکیده

This paper presents a novel full reference (FR) image quality assessment algorithm by depicting the subband characteristics in the wavelet domain. The proposed image quality assesment method is based on the energy estimation in wavelet transformed image. Image quality assessment is achieved by applying a multi-level wavelet decomposition on the both original and enhanced image. Next, the wavelet energy is computed in order to obtain the percentage of energy corrosponding to approximation and vector containing percentage of energy corrosponding to details. Further, the approximate and detail energy levels of both original and enhanced images are compared in order to formulate an image quality assesment. Numerous experiments are conducted on a dozen of image enhancement algorithms. The results presented show that the image with poor contrast in foreground then the background has continuous regular coefficient values. The Probability Density Function (PDF) for such image has relatively lower wavelet energy and skewness compared with background. The proposed scheme not only evaluates global information of an image but also estimates fine detail changes in an enhanced image. Thus, the proposed metric serves as a objective and effective assessment full reference criterion for color image quality assessment. Experimental results presented confirm that the proposed wavelet energy metric is an efficient and useful metric for evaluating the quality of the color image enhancement.

Reduced-Reference Image Quality Assessment based on saliency region extraction

In this paper, a novel saliency theory based RR-IQA metric is introduced. As the human visual system is sensitive to the salient region, evaluating the image quality based on the salient region could increase the accuracy of the algorithm. In order to extract the salient regions, we use blob decomposition (BD) tool as a texture component descriptor. A new method for blob decomposition is propos...

Assessment of the Wavelet Transform for Noise Reduction in Simulated PET Images

Introduction: An efficient method of tomographic imaging in nuclear medicine is positron emission tomography (PET). Compared to SPECT, PET has the advantages of higher levels of sensitivity, spatial resolution and more accurate quantification. However, high noise levels in the image limit its diagnostic utility. Noise removal in nuclear medicine is traditionally based on Fourier decomposition o...

Compressed-Sampling-Based Image Saliency Detection in the Wavelet Domain

When watching natural scenes, an overwhelming amount of information is delivered to the Human Visual System (HVS). The optic nerve is estimated to receive around 108 bits of information a second. This large amount of information can’t be processed right away through our neural system. Visual attention mechanism enables HVS to spend neural resources efficiently, only on the selected parts of the...

A Novel Image Structural Similarity Index Considering Image Content Detectability Using Maximally Stable Extremal Region Descriptor

The image content detectability and image structure preservation are closely related concepts with undeniable role in image quality assessment. However, the most attention of image quality studies has been paid to image structure evaluation, few of them focused on image content detectability. Examining the image structure was firstly introduced and assessed in Structural SIMilarity (SSIM) measu...

An Adaptive Hierarchical Method Based on Wavelet and Adaptive Filtering for MRI Denoising

MRI is one of the most powerful techniques to study the internal structure of the body. MRI image quality is affected by various noises. Noises in MRI are usually thermal and mainly due to the motion of charged particles in the coil. Noise in MRI images also cause a limitation in the study of visual images as well as computer analysis of the images. In this paper, first, it is proved that proba...
